“As a young man, two of my many hobbies were working with wood and flying gliders. I have been fortunate to make my profession out of both. Since 1999 I’ve combined flying as an airline pilot with interior and furniture design. A great combination of a structured, disciplined, concrete profession and a creative one. In the latter, I must say, some of my qualities as a captain come at hand. I fly all over Europe to visit the most leading interior fairs, ‘Salone del Mobile’ in Milan, ‘Maison et Objet’ in Paris, ‘Interieur’ in Kortrijk and the ‘Woonbeurs’ and ‘Baden in Holland’ in the Netherlands. This, together with the training and courses I attend, keeps my professionalism high, another resemblance with flying. For some years I worked in the construction industry myself, trained and motivated by my step father Fons Wijffels, who I owe a lot to. I started as a painter and worked myself up to building supervisor. With my education in construction and law this comes at hand in co-ordinating the rebuilding process.”
